In order to understand Ex-Barb, one must understand her history of Barbarism. During the summer of 2019, two groups of friends with freshly crafted musical projects arrived at the name “Barb.” The other Barb contacted this Barb in the DMs of instagram to declare their ownership of the name Barb. This Barb rebutted with a proposition: To have a BARB-BQ cookoff to see who keeps the name. Other Barb left us on “read” but refused to change their name. This altered the course of the band’s history forever; as our pettiness over the situation became foundational to our music, branding, and goals. We changed our name to “Ex-Barb” to accommodate without accommodating, and wrote this single “Kentucky Caught Lackin” to express how we felt at their refusal to participate in friendly competition. The album art is an homage to their debut album, but with a larger focus on the reheated quality of their chicken and our charged but intertwined histories.
